Malacañang welcomes the proposal to use the frequencies of ABS-CBN for distance learning
Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund Villafuerte recently proposed to use the frequencies of ABS-CBN to aid the education sector's plan for distance learning.
The palace welcomed this idea since the frequencies of the said network have the widest reach in the country and it will be truly beneficial in the campaign for learning continuity amid our crisis.
“It’s a good idea but the decision must be made by the Secretary Leonor Briones and Chairman Popoy De Vera,” said Harry Roque, the presidential spokesperson.

In the learning continuity plan of the Department of Education, various learning modalities may be applied and used depending on the current situation of the school in their localities. With the use of the Learner Enrollment and Survey Forms, each school was able to identify the learning modality that would best fit their local situation. It could be online learning, modular learning, blended learning where TV, radio, and the internet can be used as their means of learning instructions.
Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the National Telecommunications Commission or NTC is allowed to decide on how to utilize the frequencies of ABS-CBN considering the above-mentioned proposal to aid and help the delivery of education.
“I think it can be, it can now be awarded by the NTC. That’s the function of the NTC and we leave it to the NTC what will happen to the frequency,” he added.
